A Brief History of
Blind River
Nestled along the north shore of Lake Huron, Blind River is a small town with deep roots in forestry, mining, and Indigenous history.
The town takes its name from the Blind River itself - so-called because early voyageurs had difficulty spotting the river’s mouth from the open lake, as it’s partially hidden by a sandbar.
In the 1800s
Blind River became a hub for the logging and lumber industries, with sawmills fueling much of the town’s early growth. Later, in the 20th century, the community became known for its role in the uranium mining boom, helping shape the economy of the region.
Today, Blind River is a welcoming northern town that offers access to incredible outdoor recreation, including paddling, fishing, hiking, and boating, while maintaining a strong connection to its natural and cultural heritage.
Located just minutes from the Mississaugi River, Blind River is the perfect launch point for your next adventure with Riverway Rentals.
